An Iconic Piece of Leverett
For nearly 200 years, Rattlesnake Gutter Road has been a vital part of our community. Since the western half of the road was closed in 2001, Rattlesnake Gutter Road has become the town’s premier recreational trail for walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers.
The Flood
In the summer of 2023, an intense rainstorm and devastating flood overwhelmed the road’s outdated drainage system and severely damaged the roadway and trail. The effects of advancing climate change mean that unless significant steps are taken quickly, this irreplaceable community resource may be lost or its use significantly curtailed.

The Plan
The Rattlesnake Gutter Restoration and Improvement Project aims to rebuild the retaining wall holding the road up over the Gutter, to greatly expand and modernize the road’s obsolete drainage system, and to take other steps to make the Gutter accessible to all of our neighbors, regardless of their physical condition.
Your Help
Please give what you can to help make this happen, and come to Town Meeting on May 3 to support CPA funding for this urgent and vital project.
Thank you.
