Bill Rivers Conservation Area and Trails

Purchased by the Town of Leverett in 2002, this 53-acre Conservation Area is on the west slope of Brushy Mountain directly behind the Leverett Elementary School. It was named in honor of Bill Rivers who chaired the Leverett Conservation Commission for many years and helped with countless projects in town, including the wildflower gardens near the library. There are many gardeners in Leverett who can still point to plants in their gardens that were a gift from Bill.

Driving Directions

• From the Leverett Town Hall turn right/north on Montague Road to the Leverett Library (75 Montague Road)
• Park at the back of the parking lot near the trailhead kiosk

Trails

• The Bill Rivers Conservation Area Trail goes behind the Leverett Elementary School’s playing fields, crosses Doolittle Brook and then goes up into the forest with many stone walls and stone structures. Please note that there are a number of stone features on this property. Some may be part of a Native American ceremonial landscape. Please be respectful of all stone work.
